Cliff Nehring's Bravo Battery Photos - 1965-66

Bravo Battery 6th BN 27th Artillery
Phouc Vinh, South Vietnam
October 1965 to March 1966

I was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1945 and I was as raised in a rural area near a small village South of Fond du lac, WI. I quit school at 16 years of age and started working life on a dairy farm.  At the age of 17 years 3 months I enlisted in the Army (1963).

My basic training was at Fort Leonard Wood MO.  Advanced training was at Ft. Sill OK. on 105 howitzers,  While there, I got certified as a vehicle driver of many different trucks, wreckers,  a missile launcher,  jeeps etc.   I was part of the 1st Armored Division-Old Ironsides.

My first duty assignment was to South Korea for 13 months. In 1964 I was sent to Ft. Hood, TX where I spent 10 months  before I got special orders for a 2 week emergency leave to be followed by orders to Ft Bliss, TX where I was assigned to the first heavy artillery battalion Vietnam bound.  The 6th Battalion 27th Artillery soon shipped to Vietnam in the fall of 1965. We made our way to Vietnam aboard the USNS Gordon.  It took 30 days to get there, where I was assigned to Bravo Battery.

I was released from the Army in March 1966 upon my return from Vietnam.  I worked in the building trades industry when I got discharged and also took advantage of the GI Bill to get an education in this field and graduated from Commercial Trades Institute located in Chicago, IL.

In 1968 I started my own building and remodeling business.  In 1980 (during the recession years) there was not much demand for home builders and remodelers so I made use of the free time.   I went to my local technical college and got my GED, (highly recommended).  After 20 years running a successful business it was time to get out of it, due to the stress, but it was fun.

Also in 1968 I got married and we eventually had two daughters and one son. The daughters live nearby and the son lives near Spokane WA.    I retired at the age of 64, and enjoyed some traveling, and just taking it easy and chilling out.

I like camping, especially canoe camping, fishing and playing board games.  I also spend a lot of time at my one room, log-wanabee cabin. While there I like to spend my time hunting, fishing and listening to the calm conifer trees swaying in the breeze and smelling the pine. It is there that I like listening to the pileated woodpeckers, bluebirds, chickadees, and Sandhill Cranes. ahhhh!  I currently live at N. Fond du lac, Wi.

Best wishes to you all,
