Epilogue - How I came to write this story "Riding A Caribou"

As webmaster of this site I receive a few messages each month from new visitors to the site.  It is what makes doing this site extra rewarding.  In November 2003 I received a message from John Stymerski.  In it he said:

I had been a passenger in this Caribou in December 1969 when I was lucky to have been chosen to fly to Chu Chi to see Bob Hope's Christmas show there.  I snapped this photo after landing in Quan Loi at 8th Aerial Port on the south side of the airstrip.  Naturally, I rescanned the photo, which was not of the best quality to begin with, and emailed it to John Stymerski.  Shortly I received this follow-up email from John:

Isn't the Web great sometimes!  My posting of that Caribou photo on this website had brought John Stymerski and I together. His subsequent  messages and his skilled sleuthing ability gave me a great deal of satisfaction.  It allowed me to learn that someone had saved one of those Caribous that I was fortunate to have flown in as a passenger.  I was happy to learn that Caribou, KA 760 that I had flown back from Chu Chi to Quan Loi in 1969 is now located in an Air Force museum - the Air Mobility Command Museum, at Dover AFB, Dover, Delaware.  I made up my mind.  I felt I had some kind of invisible bond with KA 760 and I owed it to that plane to write this reminiscence and thank all those Air Force guys so many years later.  John Wavra

If you are interested in learning more about the Caribou and its mission in the service of our country I invite you to check out the fabulous C-7A Caribou Association website at  www.c-7acaribou.com
